It's important to choose a studio that is established and grounded in their processes as a business. Especially for families with multiple children, you want to make sure you are using a photographer that will stand the test of time. Not only does this ensure a more smooth and streamlined process overall, it also guarantees that each of your children's portraits will have a similar style and feel.
You may have heard the phrase ‘spray and pray'. In the photo industry, we use this term to describe photographers who take tons of photos in hopes they get a few good ones. This type of amateur photographer may post a few ‘lucky shots’ from a session to Instagram or Facebook, but you won’t be able to find a full senior session on their website or blog. All photographers have to start somewhere, but you sure don’t want a beginner to use your once in a lifetime senior session for practice! It’s very important that your photographer have a proven track record of consistently producing quality work. Otherwise, you may end up with only a few images you love. Ask to see a FULL senior session, so that you can get an idea of the consistency of your photographer. We've provided links to some of ours. Check them out!:
This is a BIG one! We strongly suggest choosing an experienced photographer who really understands how to professionally edit your photos. At Elite Photography, we hand edit each image using professional techniques to create color consistency over all of your portraits, correct oily skin, blemishes, and remove stray hairs. We do NOT simply add the same filter to all of your photos and call them edited. If you wanted a generic edit, you could do it yourself on Instagram!
04. PHOTO PRODUCTS.
While getting digital files is awesome for posting to social media, we've had parents tell us that there’s nothing like receiving a wall portrait or bound album with all of their child's images. These are items that will become even more special over the years than those images buried in a social media profile or stuck on a flash drive. Make sure your photographer provides heirloom quality photo products in addition to digital files!
05. MEET UP!
Being professionally photographed can be an exciting, and sometimes overwhelming experience! It's important to have some one-on-one face time with your photographer, whether that's in the studio or virtually! Doing so will let you know instantly if you’ll connect well and be comfortable with him or her. Most importantly, you want a photographer that is friendly, talented, and who cares about your senior experience!
