Imagine yourself, an hour before your shoot.. thinking "OMG I am NOT ready!!! Where did the time go.. why didn't I think of this until now.. why do I feel stressed out, this was supposed to be fun!!!!"
Here at Elite, we believe that when it comes to senior photography, a little effort goes a long way! Just like how you would plan your outfit, hair, and/or makeup for a special occasion, putting effort into these things before your shoot is a MUST!
For clothing, we absolutely adore Altar'd State and Free People. Their clothes have incredible quality and photograph beautifully!
For makeup, we love Sephora! The customer service is on point- 9 times out of 10, their representatives will know exactly how to help you when you tell them you need your makeup to look it's best for a camera!
Going the extra mile in the makeup department is so important. We are not saying pile it on!! The flash of a camera actually "takes makeup off" in a sense, so it is very important to apply more than you would on an average day. Hint: it's possible to look "natural" and still have enough makeup on to avoid looking washed out on camera. Enhancing your NATURAL beauty is much more important than changing your look altogether- with too much contour for example, or colors that you wouldn't normally use.
Oh and let's talk about hair. DO NOT, we repeat.. DO NOT DRASTICALLY CHANGE YOUR HAIR A DAY BEFORE YOUR SHOOT!! We've had so many clients come in upset about their new "do".. they thought they would love it and well, they don't... they haven't gotten used to styling it, they don't love the color like they thought they would.. sound familiar? All we're saying is, play it safe! Take some time to think about your hairstyle- will you curl it, or leave it straight.. have you practiced to make sure you can get it done.. how much time do you need to give yourself so you aren't rushing around?? okay, you get the point!
For your senior photo outfit, we tend to recommend a few different outfit selections. Keep in mind that something very "trendy" will date your photos! If you're okay with that, or if that's actually what you're going for, than by all means, go trendy! It's always a great idea to throw in a few more traditional outfits as well- something timeless. We hope your portraits end up on a wall somewhere, and we want them to look good for years to come!
So many people discredit the importance of layering and accessorizing when they pick their outfits. These two elements make ANY outfit look more polished and put together! Guys, this isn't just for the girls, this goes for you too! Take a day or two in the week leading up to your shoot to try on different outfit combinations -maybe even have a friend or family member snap a quick picture of you!
Our mission at Elite is to build up and encourage one another through photography. While it's our job to help you look your best on camera (& we WILL do that by the way), it really starts with you! We want you to love yourself first, before you ever walk in front of the camera. Let's be honest, when you've taken some time for yourself you will look AND feel your best- & THAT is the version of you that we want to capture! That is the version of you that we want you to remember.
